Bred in European racing fashion, the Mondeo's cousin, the Ford Contour, came
to the US as an SVT vehicle. With the engine designed by the likes of
Ford Cosworth and Porsche, this beauty puts out one of the highest hp/L
measurements in a stock US production car.
This is my Ford Contour SVT, #651 of 6535 built in the 1998 batch. I
test drove it at the Len Stoler Dealership in Columbia,
MD, and after I
burnt a little rubber at the first traffic light I sped away from, I was
addicted. Of course, over the years, and it has been about 7 years
since this car was purchased (June 1997), the modification itch came over
me. First it was the KKM intake (which I just changed to retrofit an
AFE filter to, www.afefilters.com);
but then, I had to have the Sho Shop Y-Pipe, the Bassani Exhaust, the Baer
Big Brake Kit, the Recaro Seats (www.recaro-seats.com), and other countless mods. Some I
installed myself (the blood shed of installing the Recaro's comes to mind,
the blown fuses when installing the Xenon's, more blood shed with the KKM,
some blood shed with the grills), while I left the "professionals"
to tackle
the rest (the exhaust stuff, the wheels, the brakes) primarily because I
don't have access to a lift or a safe set of jack/jack stands.
 
Turbo charging glory is here, 401fwhp, 381 ft/lbs of tq at 17psi!:
1. T3/T4 Dual ball bearing liquid cooled

Downpipe includes flex and 3" high flow cat

6. Wastegate-Tial 35mm divorced wastegate by Garrett
7. Heat Exchanger-8 pass 1/2"
8. Reservoir Tank-4 gallon aluminum reservoir tank, with aviation
style lid
9. Intercooler pump-198 gph
10. Injectors-6 42# Ford
11. Spark plugs-6 NGK gapped at .03
12. Engine Management-Custom dyno tuned ADC chip
13. Ventilation-Catch can with breather
14. Battery hold down kit-0 gauge battery line, eyelets and hold downs
The engine upgrades include:
- Cylinder Head has been P&P for turbo app, fit with 3L valves and ST220
Valve Springs complete with ARP Head Bolts
- Diamond Piston Forged Flat Top, 9:1 CR
- Pauter 4340 Chrome-Moly Forged Rods complete with 220k psi steel rod
bolts
- Fed-Mogul Main Bearings (no ARP Main Bolts available :( )
- Clevite 77 Rod Bearings
- Fel-Pro Complete Gasket Kit
- Upgraded 3L Oil Pan and Windage Tray
- Magnecor 8.5mm Wires
- Triple-EH SVT UIM rated at ~190cfm (more to come on that soon)
- 34/35mm SVT LIM
- Tom Warmonger 70mm GT Throttle Body
- ADC-Custom 3" Catback with Magnaflow mufflers, all stainless steel
with TIG welding.
The Tranny Upgrade, because of my 3rd gear grind, includes:
- FRP Torsen T-2 LSD
- Upgraded Shift Forks
- Upgraded Synchros
- Upgraded Shift Tower (all from Ford!)
